Expert Fire Door Inspections

Fire doors are perhaps the most crucial component of a building’s passive fire protection system.

Their sole purpose is to contain fire and smoke, protecting escape routes and providing critical time for evacuation. However, an estimated 80% of fire doors fail inspection due to common faults, rendering them useless in a real fire scenario. This is why certified, routine fire door inspections by a specialist are non-negotiable for facilities management compliance.

The Integrity Check: Our Inspection Process

Our certified inspectors are trained to meticulously examine every element of the fire door assembly, as a door is only as strong as its weakest component. We adhere to the highest industry standards, including requirements set out by the Fire Door Inspection Scheme (FDIS). We conduct non-destructive inspections on all critical components:

  • Door Leaf & Frame: Checking for damage, correct material specification, and structural integrity.

  • Gaps & Thresholds: Ensuring the clearances around the door are compliant (typically 2-4mm) to prevent smoke and heat leakage.

  • Ironmongery: Verifying that all hinges, closers, and locks are fire-rated, correctly fitted, and fully functional. A faulty door closer is a primary cause of fire door failure.

  • Seals (Intumescent & Smoke): Confirming that intumescent seals (which expand in heat) and cold smoke seals (essential for stopping smoke) are correctly fitted and undamaged.

  • Glazing: Checking that any glass panels are fire-rated and properly secured with the correct bead and mastic.

Total Compliance and Documentation

Our inspection process provides you with immediate, irrefutable evidence of the door's condition. Every inspection results in a comprehensive report detailing photographic evidence of any defects, a clear risk rating for each door, and specific recommendations for fire door maintenance or fire door repair.

This clear documentation is vital for your fire safety records and demonstrates due diligence to enforcement authorities, ensuring your portfolio of properties remains compliant and safe.
